10 Martial Arts That You Must See!

My CURRENT top 10 styles that influenced me greatly

There are 100's of great fighting styles in the world with unique skills. Baji Quan, Kyokushin, Sumo, Sambo, Kenpo Karate, I could go on and on. But here are my Top 10 that really influenced my views. Just because I have these art listed, doesnt mean there arent other martial arts I REALLY like...but these are just of more interest. For example, Silat is not on the list, but I REALLYYYY love silat. Drum roll please..!!!

My top 10 favorite martial art styles...........

Over the years I have done a TON of research and cross-training in other martial arts. Early in my training, I was very closed minded and prideful of my "Northern Shaolin" Kung Fu school. I was young and new to martial arts, and wanted to believe that my school was the best in the world. After a few years of training/research, and many battles later, I started to realize that other styles might have something to offer me. So, after a decade of researching other styles and evolving as a martial artist, which ones stand out to me the most? Firstly, I start off by saying that I love ALL styles, and respect all martial artists who work hard and represent their chosen art with love and courage. I have many styles in mind to list, but I will do my best to put it in my "top 10". In my OPINION, these arts are the most well-rounded in terms of health building qualities, self-defense, and just plain interesting and fun to learn. I will list my top 10, in no special order, just randomness.

1. Xing Yi Quan - Simple yet profound, efficient, health building, aggressive, easy on the body,

Can be practiced well into old age, yet isn't boring. Lots of potential (depending on the innovation of the practitioner)

2. Sanda boxing- A master of the basics coupled with Chinese Fast wrestling.

3. Kali/Escrima- Arguably one of the most realistic and famous weapons training style. Fun too!

4. Western boxing- A master of basic punch offense and defense, footwork, stance

5. Wing Chun- Interesting defensive counters and scientific approach to fighting

6. Brazilian Jujitsu- The most diverse ground fighting system I have ever seen

7. Krav Maga- A great system that brings martial arts in the modern "war" era

8. Jeet Kune Do- A hybrid of many arts that brings back the "no holds barred" of

Traditional martial arts with a modern and open-minded outlook that spawned a new generation of creativity.

9. Muay Boron styles- (especially "Chaiya") - A diverse collection of ancient Thai boxing styles that uses interesting defensive blocks that translates into simultaneous offense. In the "boron" styles you will see all kinds techniques not seen in the ring. Submissions, head butts, all kinds of stuff.

10. Tai Chi Chuan- The only martial art I have seen that can pretty much be trained for an entire lifetime regardless of age, promotes health, and if trained with a TRUE master, has some interesting fighting applications.

So there you have it! The list may surprise you, but that's my opinion. But, like I said earlier, I love all styles! I love the submissions and rakes found in tiger kung fu, the spherical strategies of Bagua, and the CQC found in Silat. I could go on for days! But, these 10 really impacted me the most as a martial artist.

Honorary Mentions.

Bajiquan, Judo, Sambo, Shotokan karate, northern mantis. Some of my other favorites.:)
